Western Washington Individual Sentenced for Aiming Laser Pointer at an Aircraft

On January 5, 2024, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington sentenced Christopher Harris to 8 months of Federal imprisonment, 3 years of supervised release, a $200 special assessment, and $426.75 in restitution to the victim. In October 2023, Harris pleaded guilty to aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft.
The investigation revealed that on November 20, 2022, Harris aimed a laser pointer at, and in the flight path of, two airplanes in flight near Arlington Municipal Airport in Arlington, Washington. One pilot reported suffering visual impairment when the laser beam illuminated the cockpit during landing.
