FHWA Suspends Former Construction Company Superintendent
On March 7, 2023, FHWA suspended Dennis Ferreira, a former Superintendent at Barletta Heavy Division, Inc., from participating in all federally funded programs and projects. In December 2022, Ferreira pleaded guilty in the U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island to making false statements in connection with a federally funded highway project. The investigation revealed that, in July 2020, Ferreira falsely reported to the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) and FHWA the origin of railroad ballast and dirt imported for the 6/10 Interchange Project in Providence, Rhode Island. Ferreira was also responsible for a report Barletta submitted to RIDOT stating that stone used in the project had been tested and met environmental criteria when, in fact, it had not.
DOT-OIG is conducting this investigation with the Department of Labor-OIG with assistance from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, Division of Law Enforcement.
Note: A suspension or debarment frequently covers a specific period of time. Please consult the System for Award Management to determine whether a company or individual is currently suspended or debarred.
