Louisiana Pilot Indicted for Falsifying an Airman Medical Certificate Application
On June 29, 2022, a grand jury in the Western District of Louisiana indicted Edward L. Angel, Sr. for making false statements on an FAA application for an airman medical certificate and for theft of Government funds from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Social Security Administration (SSA).
The indictment alleges that in January of 2018, 2020, and 2022, Angel completed an FAA medical application without disclosing a disability for which Angel received VA and SSA disability benefits. The indictment further alleges that Angel, as owner and operator of ELA Group and Paradigm Engineers and Constructors PLLC, received $161,616.65 in VA individual unemployability disability benefits and $214,336.30 in SSA disability insurance benefits for which Angel was not entitled.
DOT-OIG is conducting this investigation with VA OIG and SSA OIG.
