Hazardous Waste Hauling Company Pleads Guilty After Investigation Into Falsified Documents

On June 8, 2022, the Circuit Court for Baltimore City sentenced STAT, Inc. to a fine of $500,000, suspending all but $200,000, and 5 years of probation. On the same day, STAT, Inc., a North Carolina corporation operating as a controlled hazardous substance hauler in Maryland, pleaded guilty to 10 counts of transporting hazardous waste using falsified documents. The corporation was charged in March 2022. On at least four occasions in 2019, STAT Inc. employees presented falsified documents to compliance employees at a controlled hazardous substance disposal facility in Baltimore, Maryland, while attempting to dispose truckloads of hazardous waste. The falsified documents appeared to be altered versions of a previously valid hazardous substance hauler certification held by the company.
