North Carolina Individual Sentenced for Fraud Involving Aircraft Parts
On February 24, 2022, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina sentenced Christopher Loeffel to 6 months of probation and a $100 special assessment for fraud involving aircraft parts in interstate commerce. In February 2019, Loeffel received payment for conducting a 100-hour airframe inspection despite not holding an aircraft mechanic certification. Loeffel then forged the initials and signature of another certified mechanic. In November 2020, Loeffel made materially false statements to DOT-OIG agents in an attempt to conceal the crime.
