Ohio Individual Pleads Guilty to Conspiracy, Theft, and Motor Coach Fraud

On January 11, 2022, Derrick L. Jones pleaded guilty in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, to multiple charges of conspiracy, interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle, wire fraud, and other violations related to commercial motor vehicle safety regulations. The investigation revealed that from approximately 2003 to 2019, Jones conspired to steal charter buses, alter and disguise those buses, and then market, under a variety of purported “tour” company names, charter bus transportation service using the stolen buses. Jones did so without registering these charter transportation providers with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and without obtaining FMCSA operating authority.
