Florida Individual Convicted and Sentenced for Tax Fraud

On December 17, 2021, Duc Hanh Thi Vu was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, to time served, 60 days of supervised release, $29,219 in restitution, a $10,000 fine, and $100 special assessment. Vu was also ordered to forfeit an aircraft to the Government. On October 3, Vu had been convicted of filing a false tax return. Vu had also been indicted for passport fraud, making false statements to a DOT-OIG agent, employing an airman without a valid airman's certificate, and filing false tax returns.

DOT-OIG conducted this investigation with the Department of State-Diplomatic Security Service, Social Security Administration-OIG, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Sheriff's Office of Marion County, Florida.
