President and Former Executive of Iowa Construction Company Indicted for Conspiracy and Tax Evasion
On November 3, 2020, a grand jury in the Northern District of Iowa indicted Kevin Alexander, president of K&L Construction Inc. (K&L), and Jenna Wilson, former Vice President of K&L, for conspiracy and tax evasion. The indictment alleges that between 2014 and 2021, Alexander and Wilson filed false tax forms and statements, transferred property between multiple companies without disclosing them to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and used various methods to conceal assets and income. The indictment also alleges that Wilson deleted payroll checks to conceal tax liabilities and submitted fraudulent bank statements to the IRS to conceal K&L's previous 2017 suspension and subsequent debarment. The investigation was initially based on a joint referral from the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Iowa Division and the Iowa Department of Transportation relating to a construction contract for a $16 million FHWA-funded project, for which K&L was the subcontractor.
DOT-OIG is conducting this investigation with the IRS Criminal Investigation Division.
