Former New York City Manager Sentenced for Receiving Bribes From Contractors

On August 30, 2021, the New York Supreme Court sentenced Ifeanyi Madu to an unconditional discharge and $375 in court fees. On the same date, Madu pleaded guilty to bribe receiving in the second degree, a Class C felony under New York penal law. In April 2018, Madu, the former mid-level manager at the New York City Department of Environmental Protection was indicted by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office (DANY). The indictment is part of a wide-scale investigation into corruption and fraud connected to projects funded by the Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration.
