Investigations

On September 20, 2021, in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, Christopher Cox pleaded guilty to smuggling illegal goods into the United States and making false statements in violation of the Clean Air Act. A criminal information issued in July 2021 alleged that on an unknown date, no later than January 11, 2019, Cox falsified and filed documentation with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in order to import a foreign-manufactured motor vehicle into United States.

 

DOT-OIG is conducting this investigation with the Department of Homeland Security Investigations Division and EPA Criminal Investigative Division.
