Florida Individual Pleads Guilty to Tax Fraud

On September 2, 2021, Duc Hanh Thi Vu pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida to one count of filing a false tax return. Vu's plea followed a signed plea agreement in which Vu agreed to pay $29,219 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and to forfeit an aircraft to the Government. Vu was previously indicted for filing false tax returns, making false statements to a DOT-OIG agent, operating an aircraft without a valid airman's certificate, and passport fraud.
 
DOT-OIG conducted this investigation with the Department of State Diplomatic-Security Service, Social Security Administration-OIG, Homeland Security Investigations, IRS-Criminal Investigation Division, and the Sheriff's Office of Marion County, Florida.
