Pennsylvania Individual Convicted and Sentenced for Wire Fraud and False Statements
On August 23, 2021, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania sentenced Peter Albanese to 5 years of probation, 5 months of home confinement, $80,361 in restitution, and a $700 special assessment. On April 15, Albanese pleaded guilty to wire fraud, Social Security fraud, and false statement charges. Albanese defrauded the Social Security Administration (SSA) by falsely claiming a disability to obtain benefits. From 2017 through October 2020, Albanese collected over $80,000 in disability benefits while concealing work and income as a commercial motor vehicle driver. Albanese also presented a fraudulent Medical Examiner’s Certificate during a federally regulated roadside inspection to conceal that they did not undergo a medical examination or hold the certification Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations require for drivers.
DOT-OIG conducted this investigation with SSA-OIG with substantial assistance from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
