Montana Business Owner Convicted and Sentenced for Failing To Surrender to the Bureau of Prisons
On July 13, 2021, the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana convicted and sentenced Peter Margiotta to 1 day imprisonment and a $100 assessment for failing to surrender to the Bureau of Prisons. On September 27, 2019, Margiotta was found guilty of conspiracy and violations of the Clean Air Act by a jury trial. Margiotta was then released pending assignment to Federal prison and was required to report to the Bureau of Prisons custody on September 9, 2020. Following a motion filed for extension of time to self-surrender and a subsequent court order, Margiotta failed to report to the Bureau of Prisons on or before January 15, 2021, as ordered by the court.
