Company Charged for Violating Clean Water Act
On April 22, 2021, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana filed a bill of information charging Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company, LLC (Great Lakes) to one count of violating the Clean Water Act. According to the information, in September 2016, Great Lakes discharged a harmful quantity of oil into a navigable water of the United States and on adjoining shorelines, affecting the United States’ natural resources. The spill took place on the edge of Bay Long near Chenier Ronquille Barrier Island, Louisiana.
DOT-OIG is conducting this investigation with the Environmental Protection Agency Criminal Investigative Division and Department of Commerce OIG.
