Ohio Highway Construction Company Agrees to a Civil Settlement
On March 17, 2021, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Ohio entered into a civil settlement agreement with Karvo Companies. Karvo agreed to pay $315,252.92 to resolve civil False Claims Act allegations. According to the settlement agreement, Karvo filed claims for payment falsely certifying that it was complying with the requirements of the DOT and Ohio Department of Transportation's Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) programs. Specifically, Karvo falsely claimed that its subcontractors were eligible under DBE program requirements and provided "commercially useful functions" on two highway construction projects between 2015 and 2018.
