Former Hawaii FAA Employee Sentenced for Interfering With Air Traffic Control Operations

On January 28, 2021, the U.S. District Court of Hawaii, convicted and sentenced Joelyn Decosta to 24 months of probation, a $5,000 fine, and a $100 special assessment. The investigation revealed that on January 4, 2019, Decosta disabled communications between air traffic control and aircraft flying above and around Honolulu. Decosta was an airway transportation specialist at the Federal Aviation Administration.
