Texas Man Pleads Guilty to Fraudulent Use of Flight Instructor Certificate Number
On February 2, 2021, Marion Stewart Canty, Jr., pleaded guilty in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas to knowingly possessing and using an FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) certificate number with the intent to falsely endorse a flight instruction logbook. Canty agreed to the truth of all matters set forth in a factual basis and stipulation, including that from about May 29, 2018 to about June 12, 2018, he did not have a CFI certificate but gave approximately 8 hours of flight training to a student pilot. Canty endorsed the student’s logbook using the CFI number of another instructor, who was neither present during any of the flights nor authorized to allow others to use his CFI number.
