Operator of Charter Bus Company Suspended
On November 16, 2020, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) suspended and proposed the debarment of Yat Kuen Chan, a consultant for passenger bus charter company L&W Travel Inc. (L&W).
On October 8, 2019, Chan pled guilty to conspiracy to pay and bribe a public official. Specifically, in July and August 2018, he paid an FMCSA safety investigator $2,800 to influence a compliance review and safety audit of L&W. He wanted to ensure that L&W’s buses would remain in service and that the company would not be subject to significant fines despite multiple safety violations.
DOT-OIG conducted this investigation jointly with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), with assistance from FMCSA.
Note: A suspension or debarment frequently covers a specific period of time. Please consult the System for Award Management to determine whether a company or individual is currently suspended or debarred.
