New Audit Announcements
Audit Initiated of FAA’s Performance Measures and Targets for Major System Investments and Efforts To Expedite the Environmental Review Process
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is responsible for managing and operating the busiest and most complex airspace system in the world. In 2018, the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018 required the Secretary of Transportation to establish metrics for evaluating the Agency’s management and performance. In 2019, to respond to the act, FAA established metrics to track progress towards the Agency’s goals for completing major investment projects and environmental reviews. The act also required the Office of Inspector General to report on FAA’s progress in meeting the established performance targets. In accordance with the act, we are initiating this audit. Our objectives will be to determine FAA’s progress in meeting the performance targets established for (1) the timely and cost-effective completion of projects and (2) the achievement of an expedited, coordinated environmental review process.
