Pennsylvania Man Convicted and Sentenced for Unlawfully Operating a Drone and Illegally Possessing Guns and Homemade Bombs

On September 24, 2020, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania convicted and sentenced Jason Muzzicato to 60 months’ incarceration, 36 months’ supervised release, and a $300 special assessment. Muzzicato pleaded guilty to possession of firearms by a person subject to a domestic violence protective order, possession of a destructive device, and knowingly operating an unregistered drone. The investigation revealed that, in addition to firearms, Muzzicato possessed homemade bombs. He also admitted that he knew he was required to register the drones he flew regularly—including a DJI Phantom 3 seized by law enforcement—but had not done so.
