Former Dallas Police Officer Sentenced for Making False Statement
On August 21, 2020, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas sentenced Matthew Alan Rushing to 3 years’ probation, 120 hours’ community service, $10,691.20 in restitution, and a $100 assessment fee. In October 2019, Rushing, a former police officer in Dallas, Texas, was convicted of making a false statement. From February through May 2019, he worked overtime hours and received compensation funded by a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration grant. To collect the overtime pay, Rushing submitted a false report to the Dallas Police Department.
