Utah Man Sentenced to 92 Months for Pointing Laser at Aircraft and Firearms Charges

On January 22, 2020, the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah sentenced Joseph W. Rocco to 92 months’ imprisonment, 3 years’ supervised release, and a $400 special assessment fee for receipt of a firearm and ammunition while under indictment, dealing in firearms without a license, smuggling, and selling a stolen firearm. Rocco was also sentenced concurrently to 6 months’ imprisonment and a $100 special assessment fee for aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft. He was indicted on the laser charge in April 2018 and on the firearms charges in September 2018, and pleaded guilty on August 19, 2019.
