Owners of Utah Trucking Company Ordered To Forfeit Over $1 Million
On January 17, 2020, the U.S. District Court, District of Utah, ordered Jay Zachary Barber to forfeit $403,941.70 and Garrett Barber to forfeit $920,457.30. These forfeiture amounts were determined to be the proceeds of a wire fraud scheme organized by the Barber brothers. Both had previously pleaded guilty in the same court and were sentenced to conspiracy to defraud the United States and commit wire fraud. The January 17 order replaced a previously entered order of forfeiture.
A prior indictment alleged that the Barbers evaded enforcement of motor carrier safety regulations. Subsequently, the U.S. Attorney’s Office filed an information that charged the pair with conspiracy to defraud the United States and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
