California Utility Company Ordered To Pay an Additional $3 million in Criminal Penalties
On November 27, 2019, the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California, San Francisco, issued an Order Adopting/Amending Conditions of Probation for Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E). The probation had called for PG&E managers and employees to perform 10,000 hours of community service. The new order states that PG&E will deposit $3 million into the court’s registry account for the Crestmoor Canyon Wildfire Mitigation Project in San Bruno, California, instead of completing approximately 2,500 remaining hours of community service. Requests by the City of San Bruno to draw against the $3 million will be reviewed by the court and/or the U.S. Probation Department, and then the court will issue an order to approve or deny the expenses.
