New York Owner and Operators of Household Goods Moving Companies Indicted on Federal Fraud Charges

On October 25, 2019, Michael Nadel and Yarin (Joe) Nadel were indicted in U.S. District Court, Brooklyn, New York, on charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, conspiracy to defraud, and making false statements.

Michael Nadel and Joe Nadel are owners and operators of State to State Moving NY, Inc.; Green Peace Transportation, LLC; Around the Clock Moving Services, Inc., and other moving companies (collectively, the affiliated moving companies). They allegedly agreed to defraud customers—directly or through brokers—by misrepresenting the estimated charges for their moving services. Then they extorted customers by refusing to return or threatening to sell or auction the goods unless they received more money.

According to the indictment, the Nadels registered several different corporate entities, including the affiliated moving companies, using fictitious names and business addresses. In addition, they allegedly submitted falsified information to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) by failing to disclose affiliations with other motor carriers whose operating authority had been revoked or suspended by FMCSA.

DOT-OIG is conducting this investigation with the FBI.
