Audit Initiated of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Information Technology Infrastructure
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulates and provides safety oversight of commercial motor vehicles in conjunction with other stakeholders, including law enforcement, the motor carrier industry, safety groups, and organized labor. The Agency’s information systems support mission processes that aid in vehicle registration, inspections, compliance, and enforcement. Effective protection of these systems and the information on them prevents unauthorized access and compromise.
Due to the importance of FMCSA’s programs to the Nation’s transportation system and the sensitivity of some of the Agency’s information, we are initiating an audit of FMCSA’s information technology (IT) infrastructure. Our objective will be to determine whether security weaknesses exist in FMCSA’s IT infrastructure that could lead to the compromise of FMCSA’s systems and data.
