Georgia Man Pleads Guilty To Delivering a Controlled Substance With an Unregistered UAS

On July 25, 2019, in U.S. District Court, Albany, Georgia, Eric Brown pleaded guilty to one count of owning and/or operating an aircraft that he knew was not registered to facilitate a controlled substance. He was indicted by a Federal grand jury in January 2019.

In his signed plea agreement, Brown admitted that he used an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) to deliver narcotics and other contraband into Autry State Prison in March 2018. He did not register the DJI Phantom 4 UAS and did not possess a valid FAA airman’s certificate or remote pilot certificate.

DOT-OIG is conducting this investigation with the Georgia Department of Corrections–Office of Professional Standards and the Mitchell County, Georgia, Sheriff’s Department, with assistance from FAA.
