California Trucking School Owner Pleads Guilty in CDL Scheme
On March 4, 2019, Jagpal Singh pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court, Sacramento, California, to charges related to his role in a scheme to fraudulently obtain commercial driver’s licenses (CDL). The investigation revealed that between September 2014 and June 2017, Singh, owner of the Calcutta Truck School in Los Angeles, bribed California Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) employees to access and alter database records. Singh wanted the records changed to show that CDL applicants had passed required tests, although they had not done so. In some cases, they did not even take the tests.
DOT-OIG is conducting this investigation with the FBI and California DMV.
