Three South Carolina Individuals Charged With Defrauding the VA
On October 9, 2018, Brian Roberts, Krisina Roberts, and John Roberts were charged by information in U.S. District Court, Aiken, South Carolina, for defrauding the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Brian and Krisina Roberts were charged with conspiracy, and John Roberts was charged with misprision of a felony.
The information alleges that the three defendants overstated and misrepresented to the VA the level of Brian Roberts’ military service disability to obtain benefits for which he was not qualified. On December 20, 2017, they were charged in a second superseding indictment for multiple crimes for their roles in the scheme, and Brian Roberts was also indicted for falsifying information on his application for an FAA airman’s medical certificate. Due to his actions, FAA issued an emergency revocation of Brian Roberts’ airman’s certificate in April 2018.
DOT-OIG conducted this investigation with VA-OIG, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and FAA.
Note: Indictments, informations, and criminal complaints are only accusations by the Government. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
