Man Charged After Aiming Laser at Police Helicopter

On October 16, 2018, Aaron Donaciano Camarillo-Morales, was charged by criminal complaint in U.S. District Court, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, after he aimed a laser at an Oklahoma City Police Department (OCPD) Air Support Unit Helicopter (Air 1).

The complaint alleges that on the evening of September 18, 2018, a laser struck Air 1 while it was in flight, temporarily blinding the pilot. The helicopter’s crew guided OCPD officers to a silver van and said the green laser light had come from that vehicle. The occupant of the van, who was identified as Camarillo-Morales, admitted that he’d aimed the laser and turned it over to the officers.

DOT-OIG is conducting this investigation with OCPD.
