Sixth Massachusetts State Trooper Charged in Overtime Abuse Investigation

On August 17, 2018, Kevin Sweeney, a suspended Massachusetts State Police (MSP) trooper, was charged via information in U.S. District Court, Boston, Massachusetts, with embezzlement and wire fraud related to overtime abuse at the MSP.

The information alleges Sweeney was paid for overtime shifts that he either did not work or departed from early. To conceal the fraud, he allegedly submitted fraudulent traffic tickets and falsely claimed that he had worked during his entire overtime shift.

The MSP routinely receives DOT grants to enforce traffic regulations on public roadways.

DOT-OIG is conducting this investigation jointly with the FBI.
