Former Texas State Trooper Sentenced to 15 Months’ Incarceration for Honest Services Wire Fraud

On April 16, Kevin Cauley, a former State Trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) was sentenced in U.S. District Court, Dallas, Texas, to 15 months of incarceration, 1 year of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment fee. He pleaded guilty to one count of honest services wire fraud in April 2017. Between July 2014 and September 2015, Cauley received at least $20,000 in cash bribes in return for giving favorable treatment to Cruz and Sons Trucking LLC related to Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance Level 1 inspection procedures. He generated forged Texas DPS Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Inspection Reports after each Level 1 inspection, and then transmitted them electronically to FMCSA.
