Ohio Commercial Motor Carrier Sentenced for Operating Without Authority
On December 21, 2017, Enson Trading LLC, d.b.a. Eternal Food Service (EFS), was sentenced in U.S. District Court, Cincinnati, Ohio, to trucking safety violations and failing to report large cash transactions. EFS was ordered to pay a criminal fine of $525,000, forfeit $215,012.55, and serve 3 years of probation.
The investigation disclosed that EFS, a wholesale food storage facility and commercial motor carrier based in Cincinnati, received $12,173.54 in cash from a customer in the course of business without filing the proper documentation with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Between June 2010 and July 2014, EFS also conspired with at least five other motor carriers to seek new safety registrations in order to reincarnate and continue operations to avoid out-of-service orders issued by FMCSA.
DOT-OIG conducted this investigation with assistance from the IRS and the FBI.
