Atlanta Doctor Pleads Guilty To Falsifying DOT Medical Examinations

On June 5, Dr. Anthony Lefteris, a DOT-designated medical examiner, pleaded guilty to Federal false statement and false data entry charges in U.S. District Court, Atlanta, Georgia.

In 2016, DOT-OIG received allegations that Lefteris had not complied with DOT's medical examination protocols for applications and renewals for CDLs. In September 2016, DOT-OIG initiated an undercover operation during which agents posed as drivers in need of DOT medical certificates. In exchange for cash payments, undercover agents obtained documents from Lefteris indicating that proper medical examinations had been performed when they had not. Lefteris later made false statements regarding the completion of the required medical examinations to DOT and entered false information into DOT’s National Registry Driver Records System.

DOT-OIG is conducting this investigation jointly with the Georgia Department of Public Safety, Motor Carrier Compliance Division.
