The Office of Inspector General is initiating an audit on the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) oversight of regional air carriers. We are conducting this audit at the request of the Ranking Members of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and its Subcommittee on Aviation, who requested that we examine the effectiveness FAA’s oversight of regional air carriers. Our audit objectives are to evaluate FAA’s process for (1) identifying periods of transition and growth at regional carriers and (2) adjusting its oversight to respond to changes in regional air carrier operations. The Ranking Members also asked us to examine issues related to pilot pay, which we plan to address in a separate report.
