Audit Initiated of FAA's Oversight of Suspected Unapproved Parts
The Office of Inspector General plans to initiate an audit on the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) oversight of Suspected Unapproved Parts (SUPs). SUPs are aircraft parts that are suspected of being manufactured without FAA approval or parts that have been intentionally misrepresented (i.e., counterfeit). Our objectives are to assess the effectiveness of FAA’s (1) process for monitoring and investigating suspected unapproved parts, and (2) oversight of industry actions to remove unapproved parts from the aviation supply chain.
