Two California Men Indicted for Conspiracy and Illegal Transportation of Hazardous Materials
California truckers Jose Antonio Adame and Juan Carlos Landaverde, were indicted by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles for conspiracy and for illegally transporting hazardous materials without the required vehicular placarding. Adame and Landaverde were arrested on July 1 and July 2, 2004 for illegally transporting 2,460 pounds of fireworks with a wholesale value of about $11,000 to California, where it is illegal to sell or use them. These indictments are the result of an ongoing task force investigation involving the FBI, LA Police Department, CA Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, and several CA Fire Departments. The task force has arrested a total of five individuals, two of whom were previously indicted, in cases involving over 28,000 pounds of fireworks.
