Third Former Driver for Virginia Trucking Company Sentenced in Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Case

On November 10, Ronald Romero Zuniga, a former driver for Covitta, Inc. (Covitta), a trucking company in Lorton, VA, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, VA to three months time served in prison and one year of supervised release; he was also ordered to cooperate with DHS in deportation proceedings. Zuniga, an illegal alien, pled guilty in September 2005 to one count of identification fraud and one count of misusing a Social Security number. Zuniga is one of five Covitta drivers indicted, and the third to be sentenced to date. Two former Covitta executives, the vice-president, Henry Delgadillo, and secretary, Ruth Lazarte, were sentenced in April 2005 to six months and two months in jail respectively, following their guilty pleas to related charges. The ongoing investigation is being conducted jointly with DHS-ICE and the Social Security Administration.
