The Office of Inspector General is initiating an audit on the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) implementation of a pilot records database. We are conducting this audit at the request of the Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation. To ensure that air carriers have full information on a pilot’s performance history during the hiring process, Congress mandated in 2010 that FAA create a centralized database of FAA and air carrier pilot records. Accordingly, our audit objectives are to (1) evaluate FAA’s progress in developing and implementing the pilot records database, and (2) determine what pilot records are available for air carriers to obtain and review for new applicants.
