Chief Counsel

Omer Poirier

As Chief Counsel, Mr. Poirier is the chief legal officer at DOT OIG. He supervises the legal staff and coordinates legal matters with the Office of Government and Public Affairs.

In addition, Mr. Poirier oversees all legal assistance to DOT OIG’s operations and activities. Specifically, he oversees the legal support of audit projects and investigations, as well as management, policy, and administration matters. He serves as a consultant for staff involved in cross-cutting and sensitive reviews and helps the Inspector General and other senior executives prepare for congressional testimony. He also represents the Office of Chief Counsel in briefings to congressional staff.

Mr. Poirier joined DOT OIG in June 2004, after serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for 15 years in both the Tampa and Honolulu offices. He also obtained 6 years of experience in two large Chicago law firms.

He is a graduate of Harvard College and Duke Law School.
