Audit initiated on Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Air Carriers' Outsourcing of Aircraft Maintenance
May 19, 2005
On May 19, we initiated an audit of FAA's oversight of audit of air carriers’ outsourcing of aircraft maintenance. The objectives of our audit are to determine: (1) the type and quantity of maintenance performed by outside repair stations, and (2) whether FAA is effectively monitoring air carriers’ oversight of the work performed by outside repair stations and verifying that safety requirements are met. The audit was requested by Rep. James L. Oberstar, Ranking Democratic Member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and Rep. Peter DeFazio.
