September 14, 2001
Based on an FAA audit of security screeners at Dulles International Airport, OIG initiated an investigation in July 2001. Security screeners and baggage handlers at Dulles are being interviewed by OIG special agents to verify that they are authorized to enter secured areas of the airport. Non-U.S. citizens without resident alien status, or other INS employment authorization, are prohibited from accessing secure areas. The employees questioned were non-U.S. citizens. The Immigration and Naturalization Service is assisting the OIG in the investigation, which is ongoing.
